A Grown-Ups' Evening in Phu Quoc: Sunset Town, Night Market & Dinner — While the Kids Are Looked After

First, the babysitter logistics

A good evening starts at 5 pm, not 7 pm. Book the sitter for a 3-hour minimum, arriving 30–45 minutes before you leave so your child meets them while you’re still in the room.

Plan 1 — Sunset Town and the Kiss Bridge (south)

Best if you’re staying at: Bai Khem, An Thoi or anywhere in the south. From Long Beach it’s a 35–40-minute taxi.

Sunset Town is the Mediterranean-style town built above An Thoi harbour — pastel houses, a clock tower, pedestrian lanes and the Kiss Bridge that faces due west. It’s the one place in Phu Quoc built for an evening stroll.

Sample timing

• – – 5:00 pm — sitter arrives; you leave at 5:30 (book the sitter until 11 pm for this plan).
• – – 6:00 pm — Kiss Bridge for sunset (check the exact sunset time; it moves from about 5:45 pm in December to 6:30 pm in June).
• – – 6:45 pm — dinner at one of the harbour-front restaurants below the town.
• – – 7:45 pm — “Symphony of the Sea”, the free jet-ski and flyboard show on the water (about 25 minutes).
• – – 9:00 pm — “Kiss of the Sea”, the 30-minute multimedia show with a fireworks finale over the sea. Runs nightly except Tuesdays; times change by season, so check the day before.

Plan 2 — Dinh Cau night market and Duong Dong (centre)

Best if you’re staying at: Long Beach or Ong Lang. Walkable from the north end of Long Beach; 15–20 minutes by taxi from Ong Lang.

The night market on Bach Dang street is loud, cheap and exactly the kind of place a four-year-old melts down in. Without one, it’s the best seafood dinner on the island for the money.

Plan 3 — A long dinner on the beach (anywhere)

Best if you’re staying at: any beachfront resort, or if you’d rather not leave the property at all.

Every major resort on Long Beach and Bai Khem has a beachfront restaurant that turns into something different after dark: tables on the sand, lanterns, a set menu or a seafood grill. It’s the easiest plan — the sitter is 200 metres away, you’re back in 10 minutes if needed, and there’s no taxi.

• – – 6:45 pm — you’re at the beach restaurant for the last of the light.
• – – 9:00 pm — dessert, a walk along the water, back to the room by 9:30.

Cost guide: resort dinners run 1.2M–3M VND for two. Off-resort alternatives on Long Beach (beach clubs and independent restaurants along Tran Hung Dao) are typically 600K–1.2M VND.

Making the evening work for your child

The evening only feels good if you’re not checking your phone every 10 minutes. A few things that make the difference:

• – – Meet the sitter in daylight. A 30-minute overlap while you’re getting ready turns a stranger into “the lady who played with me”.
• – – Write the routine down. Dinner time, what they eat, bath, the exact bedtime steps, the comfort toy, what to do if they wake. Calibee sitters follow your notes, not their own habits.

It can work well — but rates are rarely published, English isn’t guaranteed and availability depends on who’s on shift. If you want a fixed price, an English-speaking sitter and a confirmation before you fly, an outside service is the more predictable option. Either way, book before you arrive, not on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a babysitter for just one evening in Phu Quoc?

Yes. Calibee’s minimum is 3 hours, which covers most dinners. There’s no minimum number of days.

What time do Phu Quoc kids’ clubs close?

Almost all close between 5 and 6 pm (Wyndham Grand is the exception at 10 pm). For anything after dinner you’ll need a babysitter.

Will the babysitter put my child to bed?

Yes — that’s the normal evening booking. You describe the routine, the sitter follows it and sends a photo once your child is asleep.

Is Sunset Town worth it with a babysitter, or should we take the kids?

Both work, but they’re different evenings. With children it’s a 5–7 pm visit for the bridge and ice cream; with a sitter it’s sunset, dinner and the late show without the clock running.

How far ahead should I book an evening sitter?
